‘With a little seed of imagination you can grow a field full of hope’
Nigerian Proverb

The Ownership Project is a non-profit studio and gallery cultivating cultural expression through printmaking and textile design.

Each year, The Ownership Project invites a small number of community members into its Artist in Residence program, predominantly working with local migrant communities and artists from Indigenous Australian backgrounds.

The program provides training in various printmaking mediums under industry professional staff and an opportunity for participants to share their stories, ideas and cultural designs with the wider Melbourne community.

The Ownership Project also runs cultural development print, textile and public mural projects within local and remote communities.

The Fitzroy gallery hosts a growing collection of fine art prints by resident artists, remote Indigenous art centres and a range of textile design products.

As a non-profit organisation, all art sales support the artists engaged with the project and ensure the sustainability of the studio and gallery.

About Us

The Ownership Project is a dynamic cross-cultural space that engages with some of the many diverse cultural groups that have come to call Australia home. The enterprise seeks to create a place of belonging, welcome and respect. The Ownership Project works in particular with refugees, migrants and Indigenous Australians to find new artist expression that has not been extensively explored and shared within our community . By encouraging individuals to express their ideas artistically we hope to empower individuals as part of the community.
